Ink Cartridge Recycling for Schools, Churches & Nonprofits: How to Start Earning Today

Ink Cartridge Recycling for Schools, Churches & Nonprofits: How to Start Earning Today

, by Planet Green, 2 min reading time

Fundraising is a challenge for any organization - especially when it depends on bake sales, car washes, or door-to-door campaigns. But what if your school, church, or nonprofit could raise money year-round, just by collecting something people already throw away?

Welcome to the world of ink cartridge recycling - a simple, sustainable way to generate income while doing good for the planet. And best of all, it’s completely free to start.

How It Works

Planet Green Recycle offers a nationwide recycling fundraiser program that turns used inkjet cartridges into real cash. Here’s the basic process:

  1. Sign up for a free Program ID at PlanetGreenRecycle.com.
  2. Share your Program ID with friends, families, staff, and supporters.
  3. Every time someone recycles or purchases using your ID, your organization earns money.

There are two ways to earn:

  • Recycling income: For every accepted cartridge sent in with your Program ID, your organization gets paid.
  • Sales revenue: When supporters purchase remanufactured or OEM surplus ink and toner using your ID, you earn 10% from the total sale.

No selling, no inventory, no upfront cost.

Who Can Join?

Any group or individual in the U.S. can participate, including:

  • K-12 schools
  • PTA/PTO groups
  • Churches and ministries
  • Sports teams and clubs
  • Scout troops
  • Animal rescues
  • Medical or civic nonprofits
  • Families saving for college or medical bills

If you can share a link or collect ink cartridges, you can raise money.

Why It Works

Ink is a household necessity - millions of people buy it every month. And almost everyone has empty cartridges lying around, unsure what to do with them. This program helps people do the right thing and support your cause at the same time.

It’s:

  • Passive: Once shared, supporters can recycle or purchase on their own
  • Scalable: There's no limit to how many people can participate
  • Eco-conscious: Every cartridge recycled helps reduce landfill waste and conserve resources
  • Profitable: Many groups earn hundreds to thousands per year with consistent outreach

What’s Accepted?

The program focuses on inkjet cartridges from popular brands like HP and Canon. The full list of accepted cartridges is available on the Planet Green Recycle website. (Note: toner cartridges are not accepted.)

Participants can mail in as few as 4 cartridges per submission using free shipping labels provided online.
